To Sleep or Sew?

For some odd reason I thought sleeping would be better for my sanity than sewing.  I went straight to bed after the husband and I watched Wristcutters: A Love Story.  It was a odd movie but really enjoyable.

So feeding time came around at 2:30am and I spent most of that time sucking out boogers and changing sheets.  Two circles were appliqued on and one Dresden inner circle pinned down for Jeanne's Quilt.

Note to Self...sewing is MUCH better for the sanity than sleep.  I'm already emotionally drained by the babies and it's only been one hour since they woke.

Finally Finished!!!

The bag is finally complete!  I was in the mood for shopping (just a bit) and bought the satin cording at Joann's.

Baby Table Bumpers

My design for the baby bumpers involves lots of appliqued circles.  Here they are, all cut out, and safely stored in a drawer. There are 5 different sizes of circles--templates were commonly used items around the house.

Cream is the background and I have a cute kiddy fabric for the boarder.  I began the project by tucking under a 1/4 inch but soon discovered it leaves an uneven circle.  So forget it; I'll leave the edges untucked and sew with rough edges out.  To get a perfect circle I'd need to cut a template a quarter inch smaller and iron the edges back around it.  Just don't want to bother; it would take so much extra time.

Delicious Banana Bread

Thursday, my auntie and mom came by--the WHOLE DAY!!--and helped me out with the babies.  It was amazing.  I even had a chance to bake some banana bread with the overripe fruit sitting on my counter.  I started throwing ingredients together and then I realized...Where are the bananas in this recipe?
I have this wonderful recipe posted on my fridge, which I haven't used or even looked at for the longest time.  It's actually a zucchini recipe.  By this point I was already on a roll.  Instead of going off in search of the family banana bread recipe I just went with it.  I substituted the zucchini for bananas and made half of the sugar, brown sugar.  And...It was amazing!!!  One loaf went to the neighbors and one for us.  It was gone within 24 hours.

One added bonus to having family over is the extra motivation to keep things clean.  I did the baking dishes within minutes of having the loaves in the oven.  It really is easier to just do it than to look at the dishes sitting in the sink, crusting, for a day.

Thinking about Blogging

It's been awhile since I blogged.  I haven't forgotten about it, actually I think about it everyday.  I just don't know what to say except...I'm still sewing along.  Bit by bit.  If I don't get a chance to sew before bed I definitely do some pinning or sewing in the early morning hours.  The babies usually wake up between 2:30am and 3:30am.  I change their diapers and while they are finishing their bottles I sneak into my craft room.

I'm working on Jeanne's Quilt and another new one.  Oh, I suppose I do have something to say after all.  My second project is a baby safety bumper for the coffee table.  I've never seen one like what I have planned so I'm not sure how it will turn out.  I've decided to make a quilted wrap for the table.  It will cover all the edges and hide the shelf underneath.  Pictures to come...

Jeanne's Quilt

This is Jeannie's Quilt--a dresden quilt I believe it's called.  I'm doing it for my mother-in-law and it's been years since she asked me to complete it.  Originally, I decided to stick with the theme in the 4 original blocks and hand applique each medallion to the backing.  I've done a lot of procrastination because of the hand sewing.

Finally, I forced myself to take this quilt out of the closet.  After much deliberation and more procrastination I decided to machine applique.   And TADA!  I've suddenly become obsessed with finishing this thing.  I've been working on it almost every night.  There are now 12 new blocks completed.
